Neighborhoods Support and Celebrate the Memorial Marathon
One of the best parts of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon? The support of the neighborhoods, just like Mesta Park, that line the 26.2 mile course and cheer on the more than 25,000 runners. This year, runners can easily identify the neighborhoods with custom designed T-shirts for Crown Heights, Edgemere Park, Heritage Hills, Mesta Park, Automobile Alley and the cities of Nichols Hills and the Village. The Memorial Marathon remembers and honors those lost and forever changed in the bombing of Oklahoma City’s federal building in 1995. Each shirt includes a message from the Memorial’s mission statement, “We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever. May all who leave here know the impact of violence. May this memorial offer comfort, strength, peace, hope and serenity.”
The Memorial Marathon is the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum’s largest fundraiser. The Memorial does not receive annual federal, state or city funding. By purchasing a $15 T-shirt, you’ll be a champion of your neighborhood and donating to the Oklahoma City National Memorial. “Runners tell us how important the neighborhood support is to reaching the Finish Line. This is a fun way to highlight and thank these neighborhoods, and remind us why we run this race,” said Kari Watkins, Race Director and Executive Director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
Join us at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Sunday, April 24. Neighborhood shirts are available at the Memorial Store located inside the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum lobby or online at store.okcnationalmemorial.org.
