I never met Ray the Painter. Instead, I had Juan the (22-year-old)Painter and his crew. A woman named Amy was supposed to be supervising, but the supervision was virtually non-existant, since Amy was mostly traveling around town, bidding on jobs and delivering paint. These folks use spray-guns followed up by hand-painting to fill in. I had lots of "overspray" on my historic brick, my bicycle, my electrical equipment, my storm windows, my deck--the list goes on. I had to insist, and personally stand by for three days to insure that the bricks on my porch, chimney, and side walls, were properly covered, and even THEN, paoint had to be cleaned off. Had I not been there to supervise, I believe that it would have been a catstrophe. They'll try to convince you that the paint mist is so fine that it evaporates before it hits the ground. This isn't true. It gets all over EVERYTHING!

I do not recommend the use of spray-guns on historic properties for this reason. It's too easy to damage historic brick and other unpainted features of the house, not to mention the fact that our houses are too close together. You run the risk of painting your neighbor's house along with yours! And watch out for your car and anything else that sits anywhere near the property.

At the end of the day, I feel that this paint job was mediocre, and that I had to more or less supervise my own job. Basic things, like masking off my storm windows, were not done and led to some instances where the paint could not be cleaned off the screens. Although most of the overspray was eventually cleaned, I continue to find areas around the house with paint spray. Amy was often difficult for me to work with and acted as if my requests to protect the brick on the house were unreasonable. There were occasions when she was quite argumentative, and her lack of on-site supervision led to many problems that could have been prevented. We eventually worked through these issues, but it was unpleasant to deal with at the time.

NOTE: Ray the Painter called me after reading the above comments. He asked me if there was anything else he could do to correct the job. I told him that the job was completed satisfactorily enough that I do not require additional services to correct it, but that I believe my assessment of the job to be a fair one.

Ray The Painter does excellent work. Ray has done many jobs for us the past several years and we are very happy with this company. Amy supervised the exterior/interior painting and repairs at our house on 16th street house in Mesta Park with excellent results. The job was big but went extremely well despite a filming crew parked in the driveway (without our permission) blocking the painting crew access. They have painted and repaired houses we own in Gatewood, NW OKC, and our medical office on Classen Boulevard. Ray was very careful to schedule work to avoid disruption of our business and even suggested low-VOC paint to minimize risk to our employees and clients. We were so happy with their work we recently contracted with Ray The Painter and his crew to paint the exterior and interior of our current residence in Mesta Park. We are delighted to have found this professional painting company with an owner who is truly interested in quality results and making his clients happy.
