The Mesta Park Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting is coming up in May. This is the meeting where the neighborhood votes on the slate of officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary) and board members (15 board members). Additionally, the Annual Meeting is also the time when we vote on the budget for the upcoming year.
How is the slate of officers and board members determined? There is a slate committee that meets that decides, hopefully with lots of volunteers and input, who to submit as the recommended slate. As president, I am responsible for bringing the slate committee together to meet. If you have any interest in either serving on the slate committee or in being considered for an officer position or board member position please let me know. To me, the ideal slate is a combination of neighborhood residents who have historical knowledge coupled with new residents who can bring fresh ideas and energy to these positions.
There is a similar process for determining a recommended budget to bring forth for a vote at the annual meeting. The Treasurer, JB Schuelien, will call a meeting of the finance committee that will examine last year’s expenses and revenues, and any other pertinent information, in developing a proposed budget. The budget includes everything from administration expenses (such as the cost of printing the newsletter) to budget for each of our specific events (Home Tour, Mesta Festa, etc.). Anyone is welcome to participate in the budget development process so if you have any interest please let me or JB know.
Both the slate of recommended officers and board members as well as the proposed budget will be printed in the April newsletter so that everyone has a chance to review these prior to our Annual Meeting the first Tuesday in May where both of these items will be presented for a vote. This means that these committees will have to have their work complete by the middle of March so if you have interest in participating please don’t hesitate in contacting us.
I really hope to see each of you at the Annual Meeting to give input for Mesta Park operations for the upcoming year, but more than that I really hope to hear from several of you that you are interested in serving on the board or as an officer as well as participating in the committee meetings discussed above. The more participation the Association has from neighbors the greater the potential for successes. Hope to hear from you.
