The greatest enhancement to our neighborhood in 2007 was the initiation of its patrol by Oklahoma City police officers. Contracted by Historic Neighborhoods Security Association (HNSA), which is comprised of members from three neighborhoods, Heritage Hills, Heritage Hills East, and Mesta Park, the officers began patrolling April 1, 2007. Since then, the results of their work have cleaned up our neighborhood:
- 100 arrests made
- 10 stolen cars recovered
- 7 car thieves arrested
- 4 drug arrests
- 6 burglary suspects arrested (some caught in the act)
- 1 juvenile run-away located
- 1 individual arrested with a gun
- 3 sex offenders arrested
- 3 parties interrupted while parents were away
- Over 1,450 checks on members’ homes while they are away (These are not
drive-bys. The officers walk around the premises and check doors,
etc. Many unlocked and open doors have been discovered by the
officers.)
- Contained three loose pit bulls until animal control could come get them.
In addition, the officers successfully kept our neighborhood safe during the December ice storm, when so many of our homes were without power and vacant. They often patrolled two officers at a time, and made countless daily home checks for residents displaced during the power outage. They even thwarted a group of would-be looters. It gave HNSA members great peace of mind to have this service available during a time of such helplessness.
This patrol service is funded directly by HNSA membership dues. If you were a member of HNSA in 2007, THANK YOU! Please renew your membership now by completing the Monthly Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) form that was included in your invoice or prepaying your annual dues. We really need your membership. If you cannot pay your dues in one of these two ways, contact Sheryl Dolan at ssdolan@sbcglobal.net or 405.521.0119 for other possible options.
If you are not a member of HNSA, stay safe in the New Year by joining for a little over $1 a day. If you become a member, you will have access to the benefits of membership that you currently do not enjoy, including:
- Immediate access to an HNSA patrol officer, who is an Oklahoma City police officer, via a mobile number that is with the officer during patrol hours
- Reports on security issues in our neighborhood
- Car battery jump-starts
- Out of town home checks upon request
If enough new members join, we can boost our 18 hour daily patrol coverage to 24 hour coverage. Please do your part to protect yourself and your neighbors by becoming an HNSA member today. Join by contacting Sheryl Dolan at ssdolan@sbcglobal.net or 405.521.0119 or take a look at our
security page.
